maybe try practicing majors, minors and modes working up and down different registers on the neck (i.e. say over two octaves) if you’re not used to that. And practice everything to a metronome!

there is no official list as of yet, but most of the bass players will use basses such as Fenders (usually Jazz or P basses), Musicman Stingrays (4 or 5 string). As for effects, that is usually left up to the front of house operator who will sometimes split the bass signal and use one dry and run a distortion or fuzz over the other
