Learn to do Good

I was reading Isaiah 1 and stopped at verse 16 and 17, where it says: “…cease to do evil, learn to do good….” (v.16b-17a)

Often we are told what to do and be and it’s almost every time an absolute claim. So we are told, “be nice” or “be better” or “you need to master this”. These expectations are put out there almost as if we should go from where we are to perfection in one step but here God says, “learn”. What a sobering thought! Learn involves gradual progress… It involves making mistakes but getting up again and learning from them and moving forwards… Learn is “I’m not there yet but I’m on my way”… Learn tells me that EVERYONE can do it, no matter where we are at on the journey, we can all do it…. Learn has no condemnation just a determination to keep going.

God, teach me… let me learn to do good with my words and actions. Teach me not to give up or think it is not worth it but learn to be more and more like you. Love you, Amen.

Much Love,
Thomas
