Hillsong CityCare

Counselling

We offer various types of counselling to address issues of depression, relationships and self-image and behavioural challenges.

In Sydney, supervised counselling interns and a number of professional volunteers deliver our free counselling services.

We also now offer paid counselling services in our Sydney city offices. Please contact us for details.

Our Brisbane counselling service is primarily delivered by professional counsellors and is available as a subsidised service. Counselling fees are charged through a sliding payment scale that is dependent upon your income.

Our appointments are available during business hours, Monday to Friday with limited time slots available in the evening.

The CityCare Counselling program is provided as a free service for individuals and families in the community who are unable to afford counselling.

Our Counselling service is effectively and sustainably delivered through professional relationships developed with reputable learning institutions in the field of Counsellor Education. We currently work with University of Sydney, Australian Catholic University, Wesley Institute (now Excelsia College), Morling College, Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP), Australian Institute of Family Counselling (AIFC) and St Marks National Theological Centre.

Testimonials

Val Steele, Lecturer and Practicum Coordinator at the Excelsia College
(Formerly known as Wesley Institute)

“The collaborative arrangement between Hillsong CityCare and Excelsia College has benefited organisations, clients and the community for the past six years. The working partnership has also assisted Excelsia College to develop a new practicum component for its latest Master of Counselling program. Feedback and meetings resulted in Excelsia College developing different policies, procedures and course content, which will lift the standard of counselling, thus ultimately profiting clients and the community.

Former Excelsia students who undertook a practicum placement at Hillsong CityCare are now in a variety of counselling positions in community centres, welfare organisations, counselling agencies, NGOs, chaplaincies and private practice. Some have leading roles in professional counselling organisations, which encourages the growth of the counselling profession within the community. Excelsia College appreciates the strong relationship the Counselling School has with Hillsong CityCare and look forward to future joint endeavours.”

Kira’s testimony as a Counselling Client in 2014

“Counselling has always intrigued me but like a lot of people, I didn’t think I needed it. I hadn’t really “been through” anything in life, and I was always under the impression that people who went to counselling had deep rooted problems to sort out. As the weeks went by, through conversation and simply being listened to, we unloaded some pretty heavy thinking that I had developed over the years due to past experiences, things that I was unconscious of until I talked them through with a professional. She gave me tangible skills about going forward with issues in my identity and insecurities I had developed, …we spent weeks on the dynamics in my family, and as we worked through obstacles, I noticed the way that I related to each of them shifted.

My perspectives really broadened, and my paradigms changed when I earned simple communication tactics to use in my close relationships. It has been so beneficial for me personally that I recommend anyone and everyone can and should do counselling at some point in their lives. I’ve actually learned principles that I can use for the rest of my life.”
