This year’s conference has been particularly meaningful to me. My 11-year-old son joined me for the first time. At the evening rally last night my son turned to me and said, “Dad … I can feel the love of Jesus from everyone around me.”
Watching my son raise his hands in worship made me cry. I grew up in a traditional home and never felt free to lose myself in worship, so to witness my son worshipping unashamedly was an incredible moment. During the message he leaned over to me and whispered, “Dad, that Stephen Furtick guy – he looks like someone you’d hang out with … your jokes are the same.” It made me laugh.
This year I brought along 10 people from my church. I wanted them to experience what I have been part of for the past 20 years. Every conference has provided me with life-defining moments. The messages from Pastor Brian about stepping out and not being afraid to fail and all those mind-blowing creative moments, have fuelled my initiatives, from singing and preaching in a bar in Cairns to establishing a biker ministry in my church. Seeing these vastly different communities collide is quite extraordinary. I have a dream to invite every biker I know to Hillsong conference. Imagine the forecourt of this arena full of Harley’s – What a spectacle! More importantly, I would love to see these blokes receive a touch from God – there’s just nothing else like it!
