Where is the peace on earth?
I think if we’re being honest, many of us may have asked ourselves this question last year as we watched our country ravaged by floodwaters just after a season that proclaimed ‘The Prince of Peace has come!’
The unforeseen events of last Christmas left so many Australians with little to celebrate as they began a year filled with loss and the prospect of little hope. Such tragedies are often a potent reminder of the reality of God in our lives…our need for a Saviour, for hope and for peace here on earth.
But it is my experience (and in fact recorded in history over and over again) that it is for those very times; times when chaos reigns and fear is prevalent, that God himself shows up.
2000 years ago in Bethlehem, when the world was desperate, tyranny ruled and peace was distant – God incarnate was born. And of course, many didn’t realise that God himself was amongst them and many were unaware of their need for peace and their need for Jesus…and despite that, He still came.
He puts himself right in the middle of our need…
His offer doesn’t change. Regardless of what your 2011 looked like, despite a world that is filled with much uncertainty, we serve a God who came to give us peace beyond understanding.
This Christmas: Into need, God births provision.
Into chaos, God births peace.
And into a world in need of a Saviour…Born is the King!
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
May your Christmas be filled with love, goodwill and the peace of God…
Love,
Brian and Bobbie
