THE BEGINNING AND THE END
He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
REVELATION 21:6 – 7 [NIV]
The words ‘Alpha and Omega’ are respectively the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet. In both the Old and New Testament, God refers to Himself as ‘the First and the Last’ and ‘the Alpha and the Omega’. We especially see this in the book of Revelation. This name of God highlights His divinity, supremacy and sovereignty. What He started He will complete. God is eternal and outside of time; He is the uncreated One… He simply is.
God is Lord over our lives, the world at large and all of creation. We can rest in knowing that even if we don’t see it or feel it all the time, He is working all things to their appointed purpose. God created the world and everything exists in Him.
What an awesome thought that God always was… there has never been a moment when He never existed. In this, we know that we will live in relationship with Him forever. God doesn’t change. He is the one person we can fully trust knowing that He is constant and will be the same tomorrow as He is today.
