For some of us the prospect of a spelling competition is not something we would look forward to, but for children that are very rarely, if ever, celebrated for their achievements, a spelling bee can build confidence and self-esteem, which is such a key to changing their future.
This week our literacy team from Hillsong Africa Foundation's held their first ever spelling bee for the three highly disadvantaged schools in Cape Town that have been participating in our #ReadBABYRead literacy focus project. The whole idea with this event was to place value on education and reward the children who are working hard to improve their literacy. The spelling bee was won by children from Hugenot Primary School in Mitchells Plain, which is such a testament to their hard work and commitment to making education a priority!
So for those women out there who have supported the #ReadBABYRead 500 Project this is all thanks to you! Putting value on education and giving children the opportunity to change their future!
