Genesis 1:1-4 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
The journey to the cross starts right at the beginning of creation. With these first words, God Almighty spoke the whole creation into existence. A sound so glorious, so magnificent, so beautiful that it still resonates in our hearts to this day. Words so powerful, it brought separation between darkness and light.
In John 8:12 we read: “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’
Jesus is the light that came into this world. Right at the beginning of creation, God the Father already proclaimed the coming of the one that will bring light to all of humanity, Jesus Christ.
Just like those very first words God spoke into the dark emptiness, Jesus today wants to speak light into our darkest situations, speak life and abundance into our nothingness and emptiness.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus, that you are the Light of the world. Thank you that you turn our darkness to light, our emptiness to fruitfulness, our despair, to everlasting joy. We pray and ask that during this time, as we prepare our hearts for Easter, that you will come and do something new in our hearts. Let Your radiance shine through our lives ever brighter for all the world to see. Amen.
