Thank You: Domestic Violence Response Update

Oct 19 2015

Every year at Colour Conference, our delegates seek to be a blessing to our local community and participate in a Local Project. This year’s project was to help the many women and children seeking refuge from family violence. We asked them to come to Conference with simple gifts to create welcome packs for the women and children who sometimes arrive at the shelter with just the clothes on their backs. The response was astounding. You brought toiletries, bath towels, face towels, pyjamas, and toys and pyjamas for the children. With your help, we were able to gift 6,197 items to agencies in our city of Sydney who desperately needed our help.

Below is a short email we received from Kim McMullan, a representative of the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, to say thank you for your generosity!

“We would like to say a big thank you to the Colour Sisterhood for the gift and food hampers that they supplied to our service earlier this month. This was the second time our service has been given these amazing hampers.

As you are aware, we work primarily with women and families all who have experienced domestic and/or family violence. The women we work with often do not have the money and do not feel valued enough to purchase the beautiful beauty items that were included in the gift hampers. These hampers made the women feel valued and special; something that rarely feel in their day to day lives.

The food hampers were provided to our families in crisis who are also often financially struggling. The food hampers helped ease some of their financial burdens, and in some cases fed their families when they may have gone without.

Our service has very limited brokerage so we are often not able to provide our clients with the much needed financial help that they need. We are forever grateful for the Colour Sisterhood for their gifts.”

Thank you again for your ownership of this local impact project and the many ways you empower and instil value in those who need it most. “If one woman can change her world, imagine what ONE COMPANY of women can do.”
