Transfiguration Song Story

Nov 18 2015

Now I know
I have seen
Your glory that cannot be unseen
I am changed
And changing still
As I look upon You Lord and believe

“I’m encouraged every time we sing the bridge of this song, as it articulates what happens when we have an encounter with Jesus. That in moments of His presence, we ourselves are continually being transfigured. Day in day out, the continual revelation of who Jesus is as we continue to look at Him and worship in adoration…”Taya Smith

This song is from Matthew 17.

“Six days later, three of them saw that glory. Jesus took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes. Sunlight poured from his face. His clothes were filled with light…

A light-radiant cloud enveloped them, and sounding from deep in the cloud a voice: “This is my Son, marked by my love, focus of my delight. Listen to him.

When the disciples heard it, they fell flat on their faces, scared to death. But Jesus came over and touched them. “Don’t be afraid.” When they opened their eyes and looked around all they saw was Jesus, only Jesus.” Matthew 17:1-8 (MSG)

I love this story, because Jesus has taken Peter, James, and John with him up this mountain – these three ordinary guys who lived life with Him day in and day out. Jesus was their friend, and they knew Him, yet on this day He revealed Himself in a new way to them. There they saw the holiness of their Friend.

This song is from that story, and let this be our prayer:

‘Our Friend, Jesus. Reveal Yourself more to us, we pray. As we step out in faith, we pray that you’d meet us, and show more of Yourself to us. That’s the most wonderful, unusual miracle that we could hope for; to know You more…’

This scriptural account of the transfiguration conveys the paradoxical yet awe-inspiring revelation that we are invited daily to discover the Most Holy in the most intimate of settings — as worshippers, disciples and friends. What a wonder that no matter how long we have walked with the Lord, there is always more of Him to know.
