For me, writing songs feels like breathing. I feel compelled to write, and if I don’t write for a few days then things just don’t seem to be quite OK with the world, as if someone has turned down the oxygen in the air.

Yet when we’ve found the thing for which God created us, we need to take care.

What else has the potential to take the place of God in our lives than our gifts? What else has the capacity to destroy us than our talents and careers?

Take a look at the entertainment world and you’ll see it’s true. There’s no stumbling block quite as big as a lifetime ambition being fulfilled.

But this is not the end of the story. In fact, it is just the beginning.

When we surrender our gifts back to God, when we offer them for His use and His glory, we find ourselves in a whole new place, where whatever talent we have gets to play a small part in the greatest story of all.
