Enthusiasm in kids ministry is key. Regardless of whether there are hundreds of children in your kids ministry, or only ten, being involved in kids ministry is such a privilege and something we should be excited about. It is therefore our responsibility as leaders to build a team that has a revelation of the importance of kids ministry and is genuinely passionate about being part of the team. Here are 3 ways to do so:

1. Model the culture that you want to see
Are you, as the leader, enthusiastic about kids ministry? Do you understand its importance?
Passion is contagious. If you aren’t constantly talking about how much you love kids ministry, your team isn’t going capture your excitement. If you aren’t enthusiastic about helping children encounter Jesus, then neither will your team.
As the leader, you need to set the culture of enthusiasm. You need to be the most enthusiastic person on your team, and in turn, your team will capture your spirit and will replicate it.
2. Communicate the big picture
People are attracted to big vision. When you’re with your team, communicate the importance and the big picture vision of what you’re building towards.
If children at the age of six, for example, can have a genuine and meaningful encounter with Jesus, imagine where they’ll be when they’re 16 or even 60! Imagine the people they’ll impact throughout primary school, high school, university and in the work place all because of what they’ve experienced in kids ministry.
The earlier someone can encounter Jesus, the better, and through kids ministry, we have the privilege and opportunity to help facilitate this.
3. Build relationship with the people on your team
Get to know the people on your team. Find out what they’re passionate about, what their dreams are, what they like doing and what their strengths are. If we can engage someone in their strengths and position them in their strength zone, they’ll be excited about what they’re doing and will move this area of kids ministry forward.
Speak into their life. Constantly encourage the people on your team. Speak vision into their future. Pray for their dreams and aspirations. Help them feel that they are loved and supported – that they’re not just part of a functioning team, but they’re part of a loving family. If someone feels genuinely accepted and loved, they’ll be excited about being part of your team.
Kids ministry is indeed such an honour to be a part of. Being able to help people find Jesus from such an early age is one of the most important things we can do and be a part of. As leaders, let’s help our team capture the importance of kids ministry.
