We spent a couple of weeks in the studio working on these acoustic versions of the songs, but even as soon as arriving at the first location it was clear that we needed to rethink the songs again. Being in Israel had a weight that we hadn’t felt back in Sydney while we were preparing for the trip. For me personally, I remember being onset at a location that overlooked the temple mount and the Mount of Beatitudes and the city of David and working with Joel on how I was going to play ‘Prince of Peace’. We ended up with quite a simple pattern, but one that I think has such honesty and emotion in it. There are other examples too of how the right feel for these songs couldn’t come from a studio in Sydney, which is interesting, but goes to show how this place and the Holy Spirit moved us all.
