Intimacy with the Holy Spirit

Let us continue on this journey of getting to know more about the Holy Spirit.

Paul writes to the Corinthians and tells them how to live effective lives. His very last words to the Corinthians are written in his second letter to them, wherein he highlights each of the persons in the Godhead and their role in our lives: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship (communion) of the Holy Spirit, be with you all”. 2 Corinthians 13:14 (NLT)

Communion in Greek; ‘koinonia’, has 3 major definitions; 1: Fellowship, 2: Partnership, and 3: Intimacy.

Let’s focus on the definition: Intimacy.

An intimate relation cannot be developed unless you have fellowship. It is the avenue to a deep friendship. The Holy Spirit wants to be an intimate friend to you. He is the Spirit of God, the One who put the stars in the universe with His fingers, and calls them by name; He wants to be your friend. He longs to be your friend.

If you look up the word intimacy, the definition will say: “A close, familiar, and unusually affectionate or loving personal relationship with another person.” Pursue Him and give Him time to reveal Himself to you.

James writes about it, saying: ”Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, ‘The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously?’” (James 4:5)

He longs for you but jealously. He will not share an intimate relationship with you, if you are pursuing the world.

Pursue Him, speak to Him, expect Him to speak to you and allow Him take you into a deeper understanding of who God is. You will see His power and presence manifest itself in your life. It has changed my life forever. Let me encourage you to pursue the fellowship (communion) of the Holy Spirit.
