“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Luke 4:18-19 MSG)
The mission of our Church is about seeing people empowered and in many ways, empowerment is synonymous with freedom. As a church, we share The A21 Campaign’s vision of freedom for every person – a world without slavery.
Human trafficking is an abuse of freedom on many levels. Through our Heart For The House giving, we are contributing to the A21 SAFE Program in Thailand in an effort to respond to trafficking in the Mekong region, within Asia-Pacific.
The Mekong region is a hub for various forms of human trafficking. Thailand is a source, transit and destination country for trafficking of significant numbers of men, women and children. Based out of Bangkok, the SAFE Program was created to help victims of trafficking return home safely and reduce the likelihood of re-trafficking.
Often people who have been trafficked into Thailand are detained as illegal immigrants. A21 collaborates with government authorities and other non-government organisations to identify victims of trafficking and ensure they receive legal assistance and any needed medical and counselling services. Victims of trafficking are supported to return safely to their home country. Once home, shelter, medical care, counselling and support to reintegrate into family and community life is provided, including education, training and employment opportunities. The program also supports the investigation and prosecution of the trafficking perpetrators.
As a church, we are partnering with A21 to seek justice, freedom, and restoration back to family and community for victims of trafficking. Your generosity through Heart For The House is both proclaiming and enabling freedom for the prisoner and the oppressed.
