Elodie is the owner of a local pizza place in Lyon, France, where one of the Hillsong Lyon staff members is a regular. After several visits, he struck up conversation with Elodie and invited her to church. One Sunday Elodie came to church with her sister. She was touched by the presence of God and gave her life to Christ that day. She has since been on a journey of discovery, which led her to consider baptism. Despite being raised Catholic, Elodie’s Dad had refused to baptise her as a baby because it was important to him that she would make her own decision about it. When she walked into the Hillsong Lyon Baptism Service, Elodie brought her whole family with her. She was baptised and salvation came to her family – her dad and two other family members left church that day with Jesus in their heart and a Bible in their hands!
Elodie’s story is an example of one of the many lives being impacted through Hillsong Lyon.
The beautiful city of Lyon is France’s third-largest city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, commanding a strategic location where the Rhone and Saone Rivers meet. The many cathedrals in the city are evidence of Lyon’s significant historical background as the location of the first Christians in France and the first martyrs. Today, there is a real need in this city for the relevance of Jesus and the Gospel message to be discovered.
The first Hillsong Lyon Connect Group gathered on the 9th November 2011 and the first church service was held on the 1st of September 2013. It has been an amazing journey so far for Hillsong Lyon. Two Sunday services are held at the Théâtre Comédie Odéon. The team have also been running Youth nights in university venues, reaching the significant student population of around 130,000.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
