Indonesian Independence Day 2019

Sep 13 2019

On Friday 16th August, the Indonesian community at Hillsong Hills Campus – along with many friends visiting from other campuses around Sydney – gathered to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day with lots of yummy food, fun games, fellowship, and prizes.

With 290 people in attendance, the Convention Centre Foyer buzzed with conversation and live music as we feasted on all the Indonesian favourites such as rendang, noodles, yellow rice, fried chicken, potato cakes and more.

A moving rendition of the Indonesian national anthem began the official part of the night which included the traditional cutting of the yellow rice mountain by Danny and Eleanor, Indonesian community leaders, with the first serve presented to our multicultural pastors Kim and John Brinsden.

During dinner time groups of children from the Indonesian connect groups performed a medley of Indonesian children songs on stage. It was a great opportunity for parents to teach their ‘Australian born of Indonesian background’ children some songs from their own childhood and the performances were enjoyed by all.

The night continued with a variety of fun games for the adults and children with many people getting involved and lots of prizes won. Apart from an opportunity to gather all the Indonesian speaking connect groups and congregation at Hillsong Hills Campus for one night of fellowship, the event was also attended by many new faces and we look forward to building relationships with these people into the future. Thank you everyone for coming!
