Have you ever wrestled with self-doubt? I certainly have.
Our flesh is weak and the enemy of our soul is deceptive and dangerously good at making us believe we are unqualified. Sometimes, when we get lured into comparison, we believe the lie that there are levels of access to the Holy Spirit. I know I used to look at great leaders, pastors and creatives and think that they had some kind of special, high level access to the Spirit that I simply didn’t have. So I’ve had to overcome this lie with the truth and the promise of God’s Word.
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on ALL PEOPLE. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams” (Acts 2:17 NIV, emphasis added mine).
All people – regardless of creed, class, age, sex, culture, platform — have full access to His Spirit.
The reality of this open access to God’s Spirit can be overwhelming. A heart and mind that has believed the lie of “unqualified” for so long tends to push back on the promise, “Full access to God’s Spirit? Me? Who am I that I could draw close to the God of the universe?!” But He calls us to come and draw close. He pours out His Spirit just as He promised — lavishly, unreservedly.
The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in me, and He is the One who qualifies me.
“When it is a question of God’s almighty Spirit, never say, I can’t.”
— Oswald Chambers
