Sunday 5th April
JESUS ENTERS JERUSALEM AS KING
Luke 19:37-40 “When he, Jesus, came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen; Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in Heaven and glory in the highest. Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher Rebuke your disciples!” I tell you, he replied, “If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
This day is known as Palm Sunday. It’s the day Jesus entered Jerusalem. And as He entered Jerusalem on a donkey, people were putting their cloaks down and palm leaves down before him, to honour and celebrate Him as King. Everyone had heard of the miracles he had done over the last few weeks before he entered Jerusalem, like raising Lazarus from the dead and healing blind Bartimaeus amongst other miracles. And all the more they shouted His praises.
The Pharisees tried to challenge Jesus by telling him to keep the people quiet, but Jesus responded by saying that even the rocks will cry out His praises if people don’t. And this just shows the importance of our very own praises and thanks to God. If the rocks can cry out and worship our God, then all the more reason for us too!
So today, let’s give thanks to God for sending his Son from heaven to earth for us! Let’s give thanks to Jesus for fulfilling His Fathers will for us. This is the true meaning of “cross=love.” We too can shout his praises for all the miracles He has done in and through our lives.
ACTION: Thank God in your own words for all the miracles He has done in your life!
