Despite the obvious fear, uncertainty, and division we’ve seen over the last few months, this time of crisis has also drawn out the best in humanity with people showing resilience, courage and unity. As we experienced only a few months ago with the Bushfire Crisis here in Australia, it has also been most encouraging in the midst of this pandemic to experience unity of heart and hand with local organisations to help our community facing hardship at this time.
To date we have been able to provide food hampers and meals to over 75 charities across Australia. Here are recent highlights of a few of the marvellous organisations we have collaborated with to ensure assistance went to where it was needed most.
Global Care on the Gold Coast joined with our CityCare team during this season to help us provide over 3000 beautifully prepared meals by the chefs at The Gold Coast Convention and Events Centre. Over the past eight weeks they have provided 400 meals each week which we were able to deliver to local women’s refuges, and to many vulnerable families that were directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the past several weeks we have had the opportunity to serve coffee to over 200 staff across three local Brisbane High Schools who we engage with through our CityCare Youth programs. This season has been particularly challenging for teachers as they have pivoted to adapt their curriculums, to an online teaching platform to meet the needs of their students learning from home. Our coffee pop-up stall enabled our team to connect with and thank the teachers and school staff for the phenomenal work they do!
Our Melbourne CityCare team delivered 40 hampers to CoHealth, a not-for-profit community health organisation that have a few sites across Melbourne. A delivery was made to one of their sites that specifically serves Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, offering them quality health care and holistic services ranging from medical, dental, mental health, food, recreations activities and community arts programs.
During this season, with job losses and financial hardship there are many more people who are at risk of homelessness. We work with many outstanding charities and organisations like Mission Australia Housing, who are passionate about helping the vulnerable in our community. We were able to deliver food hampers to their Northern Beaches office to support residents in their crisis and transitional accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.
Parramatta Mission is a beacon of light and has worked tirelessly over the years in their efforts to serve the homeless and vulnerable families in Sydney’s West. Our NSW North team recently made deliveries of food hampers to Parramatta Mission to support the emergency food assistance services they provide through their Meals Plus program.
Our CityCare Waterloo team have a great working relationship with the Youth Liaison Officers of the South Sydney Police. The officers regularly drop in to pick up bags of food for local families in the community who they know are going through an especially hard season. They asked us to convey their appreciation to you, Hillsong Church, for the donations of food which make this possible.
Thank you for your continued generosity that enables us to be a bridge of hope and support to our local community.
