Update from Donna Crouch
Early last year, I encouraged you on a unique way to support vulnerable people in our community in a time of crisis through the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood and I just wanted to thank all those who have rolled up their sleeves. Those part of the Hillsong team have helped save 213 lives this year alone.
Lifeblood needs 31,000 donations each week to help meet hospital demand – helping give life to those undergoing surgeries, women in pregnancy, people undergoing cancer treatments and those in road accidents.
ALL donations are essential in helping serve the Australian community, but at the moment, the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood have a Rare Donor Call looking for people who can support three families in Australia who are facing ongoing treatment. The blood type these people need is rare in the general population, but can be found in one per cent of those with Polynesian and Filipino heritage.
Therefore, we’d love to particularly encourage people from Pacific Islander, Maori and Filipino communities to make an appointment to help make a difference in these lives. At the present time, there are not enough eligible donors here in Australia and these patients are being supported by blood from New Zealand.
If you are of these background, here’s how to help:
Step 1. Go to donateblood.com.au or call 13 14 95 and mention ‘Rare Donor Drive’.
Step 2. Follow the prompts to Log in or Register
Step 3. When visiting one of the 90 donor centres, please advise staff that you would like to register to the Pacific Donors Lifeblood Teams which will help track your donations.
Step 4. Visit the FAQ page to check your eligibility.
Step 5. Make an appointment at one of over 90 Lifeblood centres across Australia.
Even if you aren’t from one of these backgrounds … join the Hillsong Lifeblood Team and stop by the mobile donor centre that visits Hillsong Hills Campus each month or visit one of over 90 centres across Australia. There is one near you.
