Excited and expectant!!! Only 2 days to go till Colour and with the same breath, inspired about a story unfolding across the earth…
There is a voice given to celebrate women around the globe by the United Nations, coined ‘International Women’s Day’ held on March 8th. The beautiful thing is that each year it coincides with Colour Conference, where we as a global company of everyday women are also celebrating and gathering in Sydney, London, Kiev and Cape Town with the mandate in front of us to ‘place value upon womanhood and place value upon humanity’. With our Senior Pastors, Brian and Bobbie Houston, the Colour Sisterhood comes alongside, to support the most vulnerable around the world and to gather, equip and mobilise our sisters. There are actually so many parallels to International Women’s Day, not least being their theme for this year which is ‘empowering women, empowering humanity’. The objective being to build a better world for women with a strong focus on closing the gap in making gender equality a reality.
I look at young girls already leading the way like the Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban in 2012 for advocating girls’ right to education and won the Nobel Peace Prize this year and Emma Watson leading the ‘He for She’ campaign, but it is not just high profile girls that are making a difference! Even our very own home grown ‘Colour’ girls like Ashley Mays making a stand against bullying with The String Movement and Laura Toggs pioneering worship with Young & Free, God is forming a strong identity in His daughters and He cares for the least of these. He cares for the downtrodden, the forgotten and those without a voice.
As we are literally on the eve of Colour Women’s Conference, where women across the globe are in full frame, there is the reminder that together we are stronger. Together we can bring change and raise the banner high for ‘empowering women, empowering humanity’ even in places that seem the darkest.
