Stuff The Bus: Rosemary's Story

25 ноябрь 2011

We first met Rosemary just over eight years ago when our Hillsong CityCare Street Teams first set foot in her neighbourhood. Rosemary shared about her suspicions of the team, saying that she thought that we were going to preach religion to the locals. Eight years on as we sit around Rosemary’s lounge room, she speaks highly of Glen (Street Teams volunteer) who has become a father figure to some of the local children.

When we went to interview Rosemary, little did we know the magnitude of what one small gift could do, as she shared about her now 53 year doll ‘Elizabeth’. She explained that ‘Elizabeth’ was not only the most precious thing in her house, but also the only gift she had ever received throughout her whole childhood. She shared how she and the other children smuggled her doll ‘Elizabeth’ through the various orphanages.

It is such a privilege that we are able to honour such people like Rosemary at Christmastime through our ‘Stuff the Bus Hillsong CityCare Christmas Appeal’. What’s even greater is that amazing people like Rosemary graciously open their homes and invite our team in like family, on a weekly basis.

Hearing Rosemary’s story reminds me of the importance of this project and that if we were unable to receive the 2900 gifts that we are still after this year, children in needy families, children in hospitals and children with a parent in prison, would be the ones missing out.
