On Friday 30th November the Indonesian Community at Hillsong Hills Campus celebrated Christmas together with our first ever Indonesian Worship Night held at the Chapel. The event was attended by around 250 people from the church and wider Indonesian community in Sydney.
One highlight of the night was worshipping together in Bahasa Indonesia, singing Hillsong songs that had been translated from English including ‘Ku Juga (Bermilyar X) – So Will I (100 Billion X)’, ‘Lingkupiku – Still’ and ‘Nyanyi and Bersoraklah -Shout to the Lord’. There is something magical and touching about watching people praise the Lord in their mother tongue.
Another highlight was a testimony shared by one of the Indonesian Hillsong College Students about never losing hope and trust in God’s perfect timing.
The evening finished with a spectacular drama performance incorporating singing, dancing, acting, special effects, amazing props and multimedia by adult and children members of the community. The play told the story of different individuals and groups all feeling rejected and sad on the night before Christmas until a street girl selling matches lights up her final match to warm herself. The story was so poignant, reminding us all about Jesus as the Light of the World and the hope we have in Him.
Proceeds from the dinner was raised for World Vision’s Sulawesi, Indonesia Earthquake Appeal, with a total of $600 donated.
After the event attendees fellowshipped around supper together, taking photos with the Hillsong Christmas lights and on stage with the decorations.
All in all it was an amazing night to remember!
