We held our Persian New Year and Nowruz celebration at the Hills Campus in Sydney, Australia in late March and our Persian Community leader, Dariush Youkhaneh, shared his thoughts on the evening:
Our community gathered to have fun, worship, and break bread together. We also gathered to remember God’s kindness over the past year and make ready our hearts for a bright year ahead.
Families brought a delicious plate of food to share for dinner. And partnering with local Persian worshippers, we worshipped with songs beautifully sung in the Persian language. It was wonderful to see people raising up their hands to thank God for His goodness. I am truly amazed with how God wonderfully works in our community’s life.
We had two guest speakers who shared their testimonies. I then shared a short message on Deuteronomy 30:16and we reminded ourselves in this Persian New Year to keep the three things ahead: “to love the Lord our God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep his commands.”Our community were encouraged and empowered and we felt the Holy Spirit in the room – such an awesome sense of unity and love.
“I have been away from church, and tonight I was somehow touched by God and I want to keep going to the church. Thank you for tonight,” one of the gentlemen in attendance said. We then prayed for all prayer requests, and we presented an opportunity for people to surrender their life to Jesus.
God is faithful!
We met new people, had fun, and felt the love and unity in Christ. We had great food and the vibe was completely awesome – so awesome that people stayed till very late in the evening to talk and chat.
A big thank you to those who were involved and served at this event. And thank you, Hillsong Church – we always love you, thank you for your heart!
