Because We Can.

Aug 9 2012

The collective compassion, strength and response of the Church on the earth today is potentially enormous and breathtaking.

Our ability to respond to injustice and break the generational impact of poverty is actually within our collective reach. You and your local church may already be accomplishing much in these areas, or there may be areas where your potential can be strengthened – so our prayer at this is that God will continue to water what is within your heart to achieve.

Be blessed and let’s continue to make His name and goodness felt across the earth.

BECAUSE WE CAN is the language, spirit and ethos attached to our endeavours both internationally and locally.

is all about the need. It overshadows the many injustices facing humanity and frames the cause, mandate and purpose we have all been called to.

is intentional. We believe in the collective action of a people united in love and a just cause. We is inclusive, it tells a story of cohesion and a people choosing to put their strength behind a CAUSE that is bigger than all our individual lives.

CAN simply realises that it is within our reach, it is possible and we can make a difference. People often respond to injustice by saying “someone should do something about this”. BECAUSE WE CAN says “that someone might as well be me!”

International Partners

We believe in partnership, in working with organisations that have runs on the board and a measurable impact on the ground, in their backyard. We believe that if we can lend our strength and influence as a company of believers to their experience and capacity then we can have a greater impact. We work both locally in our community and internationally.

VISION RESCUE works in India feeding and educating street
children, providing them with a chance at a future.

HILLSONG AFRICA FOUNDATION works in Cape Town, South Africa. They are committed to working with the community to address the obvious needs that people are facing, through feeding programs, micro-enterprise and community development. They are also partnering with facilities for disabled children providing access to education and a safe environment.

THE A21 CAMPAIGN’s aim is to abolish slavery in the 21st century. From rescue and rehabilitation of trafficked women through to prevention and protection of the next generation through awareness programs and the recently launched hotline, The A21 Campaign is having a huge impact on trafficking in Europe.

COMPASSION is a long standing partner of Hillsong. For many years we have partnered with Compassion to release children from poverty, breaking the generational cycle of poverty around the globe.

WATOTO CHILDCARE MINISTRIES is based in Uganda and their aim is to rescue, rehabilitate, educate and provide for as many children as possible who have been orphaned as a result of the ongoing war in the north of Uganda and HIV/AIDS.

Isaiah 58:6-14 (MSG)

“This is the kind of fast day I’m after: to break the chains of injustice, get rid of exploitation in the workplace, free the oppressed, cancel debts. What I’m interested in seeing you do is: sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad, being available to your own families. Do this and the lights will turn on, and your lives will turn around at once. Your righteousness will pave your way. The God of glory will secure your passage. Then when you pray, God will answer. You’ll call out for help and I’ll say, ‘Here I am.’

If you get rid of unfair practices, quit blaming victims, quit gossiping about other people’s sins, If you are generous with the hungry and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out, Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness, your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight. I will always show you where to go. I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest of places- firm muscles, strong bones. You’ll be like a well-watered garden, a gurgling spring that never runs dry. You’ll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew, rebuild the foundations from out of your past. You’ll be known as those who can fix anything, restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community livable again.

If you watch your step on the Sabbath and don’t use my holy day for personal advantage, If you treat the Sabbath as a day of joy, God’s holy day as a celebration, If you honor it by refusing ‘business as usual,’ making money, running here and there-Then you’ll be free to enjoy God! Oh, I’ll make you ride high and soar above it all. I’ll make you feast on the inheritance of your ancestor Jacob.” Yes! God says so!”
