Every few months, Hillsong Sisterhood Australia spends a mid-week morning making a felt difference in our local communities. For me, in endeavouring to be helpful in our local community, I always seem to feel more impacted by the diversity of the amazing people I have the honour of serving than the actual impact I may make.
I think there is an aspect of the human psyche that desires to help a fellow human being. At the same time as 'helping' in a BE THE CHANGE setting, something of a deep satisfaction takes place…
I find the people I have had the privilege of serving have had a profound, lasting impression on me. I am so inspired by the resilience of people going through hardship. The most recent group I spent the morning with, struggled with drug and alcohol abuse. A real issue faced by many people in most communities.
Even though there was an obvious struggle, I was amazed at the way these incredible individuals immediately accepted me and others from our local Sisterhood team into their community. This challenged me… and drove me to reassess my willingness to accept others.
It also reminded me that the message of LOVE and ACCEPTANCE we have through JESUS CHRIST is the most powerful and necessary message and tool we have in reaching and serving a lost and hope-void world.
BE THE CHANGE mornings are a necessary reminder to me that serving people is not a once off occasion, but a daily lifestyle of serving people of all kinds as the opportunities arise in my everyday encounters.
I'll leave you with the same thought I share with our girls before we venture out to be the change… “It doesn’t take much to make a difference.”
It's SPRING in Australia right now and our theme across church life is LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR… we have a three way approach to make LOVING THY NEIGHBOUR a reality… tt’s simple… BRING ONE, LOVE ONE, SERVE ONE! Think about it and look for the opportunities to do this everyday.
