Day 22: Advance The Kingdom

The word “calling” can bring a mixed bag of feelings. When some people hear it they get excited about what’s to come for their lives while others get anxious about the unknown that lies ahead. At one point or another, we’ve all wondered, “What is my calling?”

In Luke 4:43 (NKJV), Jesus tells us His calling and purpose when He said, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.”

In For This I Was Born, Pastor Brian Houston says, “I wholeheartedly believe there is one cause that is greater than any other cause… It is the cause of Jesus Christ.” We’re called to share in Christ’s cause to advance the Kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 1:26-27 (NIV) says, “Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

Your calling isn’t qualified by your ability, education, social status, birthplace, or family history. Your calling is qualified solely by the One who’s given it to you: God Himself. Additionally, your calling isn’t something that you can lose. Romans 11:29 (NIV emphasis added) says, “For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.”

We each have our own personal vision for our life, but as believers, we have a unified call to advance the Kingdom of God in whatever sphere of life we find ourselves in. Pastor Brian Houston challenges us with this question: “Are you willing to let your vision die for the cause of Christ?”

When you live a life knowing you’re called to advance the Kingdom of God, you too will advance. Now is your time. Are you ready to advance?

Action Questions:

How can you advance the Kingdom of God in your sphere of influence?

Prayer: Father, I want to partner with You in Your mission to advance Your Kingdom. Give me the courage and strength I need to outwork the call You’ve placed on my life. As Your Kingdom advances may I advance with it. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
