Frequently Asked Questions

AFTER SUBMITTING MY APPLICATION, WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE?

Once we have received your completed online application, you will get a response within 1-2 weeks. If your application is incomplete, or if we have further questions, we will contact you. Please note, incomplete applications are not able to be processed.

WHO CAN I ASK FOR A PASTORAL REFERENCE?

A Pastoral Reference can be completed by a pastor at your current church who has known you well for at least 12 months and can provide reliable information about your character and suitability for ministry training. If you have not known your pastor for at least 12 months, you may submit a reference from both your current and former pastor or submit two additional personal references.

DO I NEED TO BE ATTENDING A LOCAL CHURCH TO APPLY?

Since we’re training you for leadership and ministry, you need to have some track record of consistent involvement in a local church before you get here. We require that you are a regular and active member of a local church for at least 12 months.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH A MINISTRY QUALIFICATION FROM HILLSONG COLLEGE?

There are a whole range of options open to you once you finish your studies at Hillsong College in Phoenix, including:

  • leadership and ministry in your local church in a staff or volunteer capacity
  • pursuing a career, vocation or entrepreneurial dream using your team and personal leadership skills
  • pursuing further study with Hillsong College in Sydney, Australia
  • Articulating/Transferring into a US bachelors program through one of our partner universities and colleges.

WHO WILL I BE LEARNING FROM?

You will be trained by our world-class College faculty who combine a passion for Jesus, a track record of leadership and ministry in Hillsong Church and a commitment to excellence in their chosen field.

WHAT DO MY CLASSES LOOK LIKE?

Each of our programs uses a range of classroom and learning formats. These include: lectures, tutorials or workshops of up to 25 people, along with one-on-one and team interactions in your practical ministry component.

DOES HILLSONG COLLEGE OFFER FINANCIAL AID OR STUDENT LOANS?

Our College does not provide scholarships or financial aid. We strive to keep the cost of tuition as low as possible. Students raise their finances by either working before coming to college and saving, or having friends, family or church members support them. Whilst saying this, please do not discount God’s ability to intervene in your circumstances. We have many students both past and present that God has miraculously provided a means by which they have come to college.

DO MY HILLSONG STUDIES COUNT TOWARDS FURTHER STUDIES?

Like many of our students, once you have completed your time at Hillsong College, you may want to go on to further studies. To help with this, Hillsong has partnership agreements with a number of Christian universities and colleges around the world, providing exciting further education pathways for our graduates, with generous credit transfer opportunities.

DOES HILLSONG COLLEGE OFFER STUDENT VISAS?

Currently, all students in Phoenix will need to be US citizens or Permanent Residents. We would love to see international students have access to study at this campus, so stay tuned. In the meantime, our Sydney campus is fully approved for international students to study in Australia

WHAT DEVICES, EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES WILL I NEED?

While College will provide a student computer lab and library, it will be a great advantage to you to have your own notebook computer (Apple or PC). College also provides free Wi-Fi to students. If you’re in our Worship Music stream, large instruments, like keyboards and drums, will be provided. If you’re a guitarist or bassist, you’ll need your own guitar, amp and perhaps even an effects board.

WHAT BOOKS DO I NEED TO BRING?

Textbook requirements are minimal. A great study bible is a must.

WILL HOUSING BE PROVIDED?

Hillsong College does not provide traditional dormitory accommodation. Instead, we rent local, unfurnished houses and apartments close to our Mesa campus, and sub-let them to our students. You’ll be sharing these with other students. You are also welcome to arrange your own housing. There is no requirement that you source your housing through us.

WILL I NEED A CAR?

Although owning a car is not required, it is highly recommended, since Phoenix is a large city.

CAN I TRANSFER BETWEEN SYDNEY AND PHOENIX?

So students can experience the full range of what Hillsong College has to offer, we will be allowing transfers between Phoenix and Sydney, in both directions. The following academic and immigration guidelines apply:

  • Students can only transfer as they complete one course and transition into their next. For example, a student who completes their Certificate IV (first year) in Phoenix, can transfer to Sydney for their Diploma (second year).
  • At the moment, a transfer from Sydney to Phoenix is only open to students who meet the US residency requirements for Phoenix (see Phoenix Entry Requirements). We are working on opening this up to international students in the future, so stay tuned.
