Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Colour Sisterhood?
The Colour Sisterhood is a company of everyday women who desire to make a difference and make the world a better place. It is a foundation seeking to place value upon humanity – a story of unity & alliance. The heart of Sisterhood is that every woman can find an important & critical level of partnership. We seek to raise awareness of key issues in the world, generate finance for our project partners, and provide tools for women to #bethechange in their local and global community.

What is the 500Project?
The 500Project is simply the difference that $500 can make for someone else. There are a huge variety of projects, from which you can choose, that relate to many of the key issues people face across the world. The simple fact is that 500 Rand / $ / £ / € can change someone else’s life. We work with local partners on the ground to provide tangible projects that will lead to great outcomes.

Where can I find more information about the various projects?
Our Projects page lists all the projects we are currently involved with. When you click into each individual project, you can scroll to the bottom and access the downloadable fact sheet – handy for any fundraising activities you might be planning or just to stick on your fridge as a reminder of what you’re praying for and donating to.

What is the Sisterhood Tin and how can I get one?
The Sisterhood Tin is a tool we have given out to delegates at Colour Conferences in the past. Unfortunately the tin isn’t available outside of Colour Conference, however we have put together a little DIY Kit for you to download and make your own tin at home.

I filled my Sisterhood Tin. How do I donate the funds?
Awesome, thank you for filling your tin! The next step is to count the money you’ve collected (if your tin doesn’t have a removable lid – click here for some ideas on how to safely open it) and either deposit it directly into our bank account, or you can donate the funds by credit card online. For more information and banking details, click through to our Financial Guidelines.

I have a story to share, how do I send it to you?
We LOVE a good story! You can send your story to us through our Share Your Story page.

I want to volunteer with a project. Where do I start?
The best way to get involved is to contact the partner you are most interested in volunteering with and talking with them directly. We work with local and trusted partners on the ground, we don’t facilitate volunteers for them.

What organisations does the Colour Sisterhood partner with?
We are blessed to partner with some incredible organisations around the world who are making a difference in their field.

Our current partners are:

Hillsong Africa Foundation
Mother’s Heart
Open Doors
Preemptive Love Coalition
SHE Rescue
The Bible Society Australia
The HAMLIN Foundation
The String Movement
Vision Rescue
World Vision

What can I do in my local community?
We are passionate about building our local community, whatever that might look like for you. Check out our Toolkit page where we give a few ideas to get you started, plus we also have a couple of books available with 500+ ideas on how you can be the change in your local community – grab them here.

I want to run a fundraiser. What should I do to show I am fundraising for a real cause?
We cannot formally authorise you to act as a Colour Sisterhood fundraising agent. However, if you are choosing to support a specific project, we recommend you download the relevant fact sheet. The fact sheets contain information giving context to the cause, who our project partners are and what people will be supporting with their donations. People can give directly online if they want receipts and 100% of all donations go to our partners. If you are supporting a Refugee Response project, you can also download the Full Overview and Stage Overviews.
For more information, please see our Financial Guidelines.

What are some fundraising ideas?
Below are just a few ideas to kick-start your brainstorming on how you could possibly raise funds for any of our Colour Sisterhood projects. Do these on your own or with your girlfriends.

  • Instead of buying coffee from a cafe, make it at home and save the money you would have spent.
  • Empty the loose change from your bag or wallet at the end of each week.
  • Ask for donations instead of gifts for your birthday or Christmas.
  • Join a fun run /marathon and ask people to sponsor you.
  • Use your skills to teach a class. E.g. Host a cooking class, budgeting class, baking class, sewing class etc. We all have something to offer!
  • Gather your girlfriends and host a girls’-night-in/afternoon-tea/breakfast and ask for small donations.
  • Keep a jar on your desk for colleagues to place loose coins/donate to.
  • Make home-made gifts/cards for people to purchase.
  • Run a trivia night for your community and ask people to contribute a small donation to attend.
  • Approach a local business and ask if they would like to be involved in supporting a project.
  • Plan an amount you would like to donate in a year and budget for it.
  • Host a garage sale and donate the money you make on selling your pre-loved items.
  • Snuggle up on the couch, in your PJs, with your favourite movie instead of going out to the cinema. Donate the amount you would have saved on tickets.
  • Host a dinner for your workplace and ask your colleagues to contribute a small donation.
  • Once a week (or more!) pack your work lunch and save the money you would have spent on eating out.

Where does my donation go?
The Colour Sisterhood passes on 100% of every donation given to the partner/project you have selected at the time of giving. There are no administration costs taken out of your donation. If you have not selected a specific partner, the donation will be allocated according to where there is the most need. Please note, if a project is completed we reserve the right to transfer any excess funds to another project. For more information, please see our Financial Guidelines.

Is my giving tax-deductible?
In Australia, all giving is tax-deductible except donations going to projects operated by Open Doors. For further information regarding tax-deductibility for Australia, UK & USA, please see our Financial Guidelines.

My church partners with a great organisation, would the Colour Sisterhood like to be involved?
The Colour Sisterhood is unable to partner with every great organisation and so we have long term existing partners that we have built relationship and accountability with. We encourage you to be mindful of your local church vision and be sure to graciously submit and share your heart with those in leadership in your life. We believe we should see the Colour Sisterhood as an ‘above and beyond’ endeavour that has the capacity to reach out and build bridges into our unchurched communities and ultimately be a blessing.
