Empowering Vulnerable Women

“There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women."

Kofi Annan

All human beings are created by God, in His image, with inherent value, dignity and potential. When the truth of every woman’s value, equal rights and intended flourishing is distorted, we see various expressions of discrimination and disempowerment that are distinct yet connected.

At the heart of the Colour Sisterhood is a mandate to place value upon womanhood. We are our sister’s keeper. When women are empowered, all of society benefits.

While progress is being made towards a world in which women live free from violence, poverty and inequality, much still remains to be done. Here we highlight just a few of the challenges facing our sisters, with hope and faith that layers of individual and collective response will make a positive difference for our sisters.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27 NIV

She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
Proverbs 31 NIV

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress
and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27 NIV

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
John 10:10 NLT

“It doesn’t matter if you have a literal sister or not. The question relates to the fact that the human race is one giant global family and therefore we have responsibility toward one another, especially when it is in our power to influence positively.”
