Preemptive Love Coalition

Iraq & Syria

Emergency relief and economic empowerment opportunities for families displaced by conflict.

Syria enters a seventh year of crisis and the scale, severity and complexity of needs across the country remain overwhelming. Starvation, chemical weapons and denial of aid is occurring and it is estimated that nearly 3 million people are living in ‘besieged’ or “hard to reach” areas with many living in makeshift shelters. (1)

An estimated 13.1 million people require humanitarian assistance.(2)

An estimated 6.1 million people are internally displaced (3) and there are 5.5 million refugees abroad, most in neighbouring countries (4). There are 9 million people in need of food assistance (5). Millions are still exposed to hostilities and protection risks, limiting access to basic goods and services and threatening life, dignity and wellbeing (6).

In Iraq, military operations and instability have left 2 million people facing food insecurity. 2.6 million people have returned, however the damage and destruction of key infrastructure and risks posed by unexploded ordnance are heavily impacting livelihood opportunities (7).

An estimated 2.9 million people have been internally displaced .

Families in Iraq lived under ISIS occupation for years and in October 2016 a military offensive was launched to reclaim the city of Mosul. The ISIS caliphate and occupation in Iraq was destroyed in 2017 however there are ongoing concerns about their possible reappearance or resurfacing elsewhere and ongoing recruitment (8). In Iraq, there has been a de-escalation in tensions however the security situation remains fluid.

Violence robs communities of infrastructure, services, and job opportunities, leaving displaced families with no way to meet basic needs.

Preemptive Love Coalition are responding to the needs of displaced families in Syria and Iraq through provision of emergency relief and empowering them through employment and small business opportunities.

Relief is provided for families in partnership with local organisations and may include meals, food packs, water, mattresses, sleeping bags, gas stoves, hygiene kits and medical supplies.

Preemptive Love Coalition comes alongside refugees through relationship-based programming, building trust across cultural, religious, and ethnic divides. Their support equips women and men to start their own businesses for domestic and international markets. They are empowered to earn their own money, stay in their home country, send their children back to school, pay rent, and buy their own food, as well as begin to rebuild the local economic and social infrastructure, remaking what was destroyed. Families receive small business grants, training, and support, so they can rebuild their lives and provide for their families long-term.

$400 provides food packages for 10 families for a month.

$1,400 AUD can empower a family to start a business.

Abeer's STORY

Abeer and her 4-yr-old daughter struggled to survive after fleeing the war in Syria. Even with a college degree she couldn’t find work until a grant from Preemptive Love Coalition enabled her to buy a sewing machine and materials to start her own local business.

Pray for displaced populations to access basic needs and services including food, water, shelter, and health care.
Pray for healing, for resilience throughout the rebuilding process, and for hope.
Pray for a spirit of welcome towards displaced families arriving in other nations.
Pray for effective global response to key conflicts; pray for peace.

The Colour Sisterhood Fight Club prays together for needs across our world.

Something to NOTE:
If you are part of a local church, please be mindful of your local church’s vision and be sure to graciously submit and share your heart with those in leadership in your life. We believe these Sisterhood projects should be seen as an ‘above and beyond’ endeavour that has the capacity to reach out and build bridges into our unchurched communities and ultimately be a blessing.

Also, please note that if the funding limit for your chosen project is reached, funds will be distributed to another Sisterhood project.

Preemptive Love Coalition is a global movement of peacemakers committed to unmaking violence by confronting fear with acts of love—because they really believe the greatest love is to lay down their lives for others. Preemptive Love provide food, water, shelter, and medical care for families on the front lines of conflict. In addition to providing essential relief for those devastated by war, they provide education for at-risk children and business empowerment grants so people can rebuild their lives. Their work is based on relationship, living alongside the people they serve, building trust across cultural, religious, and ethnic divides. With fifteen years of continued presence in the Middle East, they have built lasting, meaningful relationships, allowing a deep understanding of the needs in each local environment.
