Preemptive Love Coalition

Iraq & Syria

Economic empowerment opportunities for families displaced by conflict.

The CONTEXT

In Iraq, almost 3 million people are displaced from their homes due to conflict.

Violence has robbed communities of infrastructure, services, and job opportunities, leaving displaced families struggling to meet basic needs.

Families may live in the unsafe debris where there home once was, or be forced into crowded camps with limited access to food and water.

Opportunities for employment are difficult to come by. War has taken homes and livelihoods, impacted refugees' sense of identity and purpose, and the task of rebuilding can seem overwhelming.

The PROJECT

Preemptive Love Coalition are coming alongside refugees through relationship-based programming and providing small business and employment opportunities.

Refugee business owners form their plan and are provided with financial resources, training, support and follow-up, to work through any challenges as they arise. With courage and resolve, they become heroes of their own story and begin rebuilding their lives.

Families who were forced to flee their homes have an opportunity to earn their own money, stay in their home country, buy food, pay rent, and send their children back to school, as well as begin to rebuild the local economic and social infrastructure, remaking what was destroyed.

Over half of the small business grants provided go to women. Women who have fled ISIS, who's husbands have died, who will go without to provide for their children. Because when a woman rises, a whole community can be lifted and remade as home.

Shireen's STORY

Shireen lived under ISIS occupation and lost her husband and parents before fleeing to Baghdad with her five children. With support, Shireen has started her own business and is looking to the future with hope.

Something to NOTE:
If you are part of a local church, please be mindful of your local church’s vision and be sure to graciously submit and share your heart with those in leadership in your life. We believe these Sisterhood projects should be seen as an ‘above and beyond’ endeavour that has the capacity to reach out and build bridges into our unchurched communities and ultimately be a blessing.

Also, please note that if the funding limit for your chosen project is reached, funds will be distributed to another Sisterhood project.

Project PARTNER

Preemptive Love Coalition is a global movement of peacemakers committed to unmaking violence by confronting fear with acts of love—because they really believe the greatest love is to lay down their lives for others. Preemptive Love provide food, water, shelter, and medical care for families on the front lines of conflict. In addition to providing essential relief for those devastated by war, they provide education for at-risk children and business empowerment grants so people can rebuild their lives. Their work is based on relationship, living alongside the people they serve, building trust across cultural, religious, and ethnic divides. With fifteen years of continued presence in the Middle East, they have built lasting, meaningful relationships, allowing a deep understanding of the needs in each local environment.
