WHAT IS YOUR STORY OF ORIGIN & WHO’S IN YOUR FAMILY?
My name is Shelby Greenslit. I was born and raised in the USA as the 4th generation of a family that came from the Czech Republic. I live in LA, California and I’m single as a pringle.
IS THERE A COLOUR MESSAGE THAT HAS RESONATED MOST WITH YOU PERSONALLY?
Yes! I remembered that Bobbie preached a message about Jesus being found “on the way” one year. There was so much of Jesus’s love laced through the message that it was almost tangible to me, and I knew I could trust and connect myself into the Sisterhood confidently because Jesus was at the centre.
WHAT MAKES YOUR HEART ACHE IN THIS WORLD?
The dehumanisation of people. Both in my own western culture, and in other cultures around the world. It breaks my heart that mass shootings in schools have become so normal, and that children are washing up on beaches, and the world simply forgets. The value of human life has become almost obsolete in the world.
WHAT “FIELD” DO YOU FIND YOURSELF IN & HOW DO YOU FIND IT?
I am the Executive Assistant to a Development Executive at a well-known animation network.
I love it because I’m constantly learning, and I am surrounded by lots of people who need Jesus desperately.
WHAT “BUMPS” DO YOU HAVE TO OVERCOME ON THE PATH?
The network I work for is particularly dark. I felt quite oppressed for the first few weeks I worked there. So my challenge is to influence for change in the culture – simply by being who I am – rather than bowing to the pressure of the culture that surrounds me. I think it’s a spiritual battle, to be honest.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR “PATH” TO BEING FOUND IN YOUR FIELD?
After I finished Hillsong College, I moved back to LA and met an amazing woman named Sally Cook, who had a connection that got me the job I’m in. I had always had a heart for the entertainment industry, but didn’t quite know where I could fit. Although I still don’t fully know where I fit, I feel resourced to pray, and have more passion than ever for the pathway that God has me on!
DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AS “ON MISSION” IN YOUR FIELD?
I see myself on mission every day! I know that if my boss knew Jesus, the entire network would change. That if my co-workers knew Jesus, they would be fulfilled and whole, rather than hungry and hollow. The atmosphere in the office would be filled with life and joy instead of stress and angst. We could create a culture of acceptance and belonging. I’m so inspired to see it become a reality!
WHAT’S NEXT TO BE DONE IN THE FIELD?
I want my own existence to be a pathway for people to know Jesus – an invitation for them to come home to Jesus. The influence that this industry holds in the world could be used to make the name of Jesus famous.
