Our journey toward God is a personal journey, but God has designed it to be done in community. Living out this faith journey with people who have the same heart and purpose fuelled by a passion to know Jesus. There is also a safety in numbers. Community offers the security of friendship, accountability to stay the path, encouragement in your faith journey and practical help in times of trouble.

Have you ever seen a murmuration? It is possibly the most beautiful example of a community working together. The most common of these are the Starlings that are often seen in this synchronised motion before they settle for the night or in response to a predator. A flock of birds in sync with each other as they dart across the sky, never missing a beat! Their flight is mesmerising and fluid like the perfect dance. The science behind this flock follows three rules: concern for the other individuals, commonality of direction, and connection with those alongside them.

We too are created to function and flourish in community and the Church is God’s beautiful expression of that community. The Church and the individuals that make up the church is at its finest when we live with that concern for and connection with those around us, and a commitment to commonality of purpose. We all have a place and a part to play; we’re cultivating a life in common.

+ Scripture reading:

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptised by one Spirit into one body — whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free — and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
