Praying for the People of Bondi
Dear Church family and friends,
As members of the Jewish community gathered by the ocean in Bondi to mark the beginning of Chanuka on the evening of Sunday 14 December, two gunmen opened fire on the peaceful crowds. This unspeakable attack has deeply affected those present, the wider Bondi community, and people across Australia and beyond.
Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the loss of lives and think of the many injured, and the families who must bury loved ones. We hold everyone in prayer and draw comfort from the promise that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalms 34:18). At the same time, we commend the courage, compassion, and quick action of lifesavers, first responders, police, health workers, and bystanders who rushed in to help.
In this heartbreaking time, we stand with the Jewish community and their leaders, whom we love and respect. We will continue to carry them in our prayers in the days ahead and offer whatever support we can.
May God’s presence and peace be with every person affected by this tragedy. We invite our global church family to join us in prayer for the people, families, and wider community of Bondi. Barak and Joelle Pauls, Campus Pastors of Hillsong Bondi, will continue to support the local Bondi community.
