In this interview with Aziza Green from Eternity News<\/a>, Hillsong’s Teaching Pastor, Robert Fergusson shares life and faith lessons.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I first heard Robert Fergusson preach when I was 19 years old. He was the guest minister from Hillsong at our young adults\u2019 ministry. From the moment he stepped onto our small platform and launched into a sermon he\u2019d titled \u201cMastering the mundane\u201d it was clear that this man had dug deep wells. He kept the room of young adults rapt through the 19 points of his sermon, one that my friends and I still reflect on to this day.<\/p>\n

On a Wednesday afternoon, almost two decades later, I stepped into his office with one burning question, \u201cWhat does it cost to endure?\u201d In 2024 Robert Fergusson celebrates his jubilee, 50 years since he became a Christian, 50 years since he preached for the first time and 50 years since he met his wife, Amanda. Much of his long ministry has been at Hillsong Church, where he has served for 33 years as a teaching pastor since moving from England to Australia in 1990.<\/p>\n

Fergusson was a university student on a path to become a biology teacher when he had a radical encounter with God. \u201cI was interested in animals. I was doing a degree in zoology, but God had other ideas,\u201d he says. He sensed the call of God to full-time ministry early but resisted. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to do it at all. In fact, I rebelled for a number of years,\u201d says Fergusson.<\/p>\n

During a class one day, he felt God arrest him. \u201cHe said, in my spirit, \u2018What are you doing?\u2019 I said, almost out loud, \u2018I\u2019m telling them about a leaf.\u2019 And he said, \u2018You should be telling them about me.\u2019 I knew from that moment that I could never be a biology teacher. I had to be a preacher,\u201d he shares.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
