1. FRIENDSHIPS ARE FORMED
One of my favourite sayings in our youth ministry is “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.” I’m sure you would agree that friendships and the people your teenagers surround themselves with, can be make or break when it comes to their future. Young people want to belong and feel part of something. Everyone longs for an authentic and genuine community and I love that camps facilitate the opportunity to form God appointed friendships. I know that over the years, many of our young people have met their closest friends at Summercamps.
2. FUN MEMORIES ARE MADE #MAKINGMEMORIES
Our Senior Pastor Brian Houston always says, “Church is to be ENJOYED not endured!” I love that we as a youth ministry embody this statement! We’ve made it one of our goals that all teenagers would look back on their years in youth and remember all the fun and funny moments- memories that would be told over their lifetime!
3. GENEROSITY IS CULTIVATED
One of the things I love most about Summercamps, are the stories we hear about young people and their increased generosity after camps. I often have parents come up and tell me how well behaved their kids have been and about all the “chores” their children are volunteering to do around the house… and what better miracle than your teenagers doing chores?! Haha- but in all seriousness, we’ve seen this translate not only into their family but also into schools and peer groups! And over the years we have heard such great reports from teachers and principals.
4. LEADERSHIP SKILLS ARE INSTILLED
There are lots of different aspects of Summercamp and with that comes the opportunity for our youth to develop key leadership skills that set them up for wins in life. Whether it’s leading tribal challenges, showing initiative in camp activities or leading social settings, we always see a huge difference in the way young people carry leadership skills before and after camp. I love watching kids go on to have leadership positions in their schools and later in the workplace, as a result of the leadership lessons they learnt at camp.
5. LIVES ARE SHAPED BY GOD ENCOUNTERS
And finally, the most important one of all! Young people are able to have radical God encounters like never before. Something special happens in an environment away from routine and the pressures and distractions of everyday life. God shapes hearts and changes lives. What can take weeks, months or even years can take place in a MOMENT on Summercamp.
We cannot wait for all the stories about how God has shaped our young people’s lives at Summercamp! Visit our summer website for more info.
