For the Light of Truth was about to come into the world and shine upon everyone. He entered into the very world he created,
yet the world was unaware.

John 1:9-10 (TPT)

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us…

This holiday season, as you prepare for Christmas, I wonder what thoughts come to your mind? It’s not such a great leap to figure out why this has been tagged ‘the silly season’ as calendars burst with events, commitments and tasks; trying to find carparks, time, tributes, turkeys, trees and trimmings…

Amid all the excitement and activity, let’s be intentional about making room in our thoughts and our day to remember why it is we do what we do. I know how easy it is to get caught up in the tasks and forget the reason we do them; spending time with and being a blessing to those we love.

Above all, Christmas is a season to celebrate the great love of God which has been so extravagantly demonstrated through the arrival of His Son – our Saviour King, Jesus Christ.

But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us… He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ. – Ephesians 2:4-5 (AMPC)

God’s love for us was (and is) so “great and wonderful and intense” that through Christ, “He entered into the very world he created”. Over two-thousand years ago, He sent His most precious and only Son, Jesus, to an unsuspecting world. Why? So that we could be reunited with our Heavenly Father in the fellowship that was so tragically lost back in the Garden.

Have you ever wondered what our world would look like if Jesus hadn’t been born? 1 John 4:19 says that, “We love because He first loved us”. Think about that for a moment… even when we were so underserving, overcome by the consequences of the Garden, He came because of His intense love for us. His love overcame every obstacle, opposition and opponent between heaven and earth – man and his Maker. This outrageous love literally moved heaven and earth – for you. It is truly outside all comprehension… superlative upon superlative, hyperbole on hyperbole still cannot convey the extraordinary length and breadth and height and depth of the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus – our Lord.

That first Christmas, God made things personal when through Jesus, His overwhelming love laid waste to all that stood between you and Him. His love conquered ALL. All our sin, shame, weakness and failures. All that was killed, stolen and destroyed – all the works of the enemy. Once and for all, Jesus abolished all sacrifice, purchasing redemption for all, fulfilling all law, overcoming all. At just the right time, born of flesh, the Son of God overcame death and liberated humanity from its torment.

No one is beyond the all-encompassing reach of His love – no one. I encourage you to anchor your heart in the confidence that nothing from the highest heaven to the most profound depths can ever separate you from His love.

May you be rooted deep in LOVE and founded securely on LOVE, that you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all God’s devoted people, the experience of that LOVE, what is the breadth and length and height and depth of it; that you may really come to know practically, through experience for yourselves, the LOVE of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge without experience; that you may be filled through all your being unto all the fullness of God, and may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself!
Ephesians 3:17-19 (AMPC)

Merry Christmas, dear friend. For all your hopes and dreams for the future, never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish them all. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! And so, may you be filled with outrageous wonder and gratitude this Christmas as you celebrate with family and friends, or spend quiet time on your own. And may you radiate this all-conquering love to others who have yet to experience it for themselves.

Love, Brian
