3 Weeks of Fast and Prayer

27 January - 16 February 2020

As a church, at the beginning of the year, we decided to spend 21 days in prayer and fasting just before the annual Vision Sunday*.

We truly believe this is very significant and we have faith to see God move in fresh and extraordinary ways leading up to Easter. Do you believe that God has more for us? I am convinced that we’ll only see that MORE when the church (which is you) has a serious commitment to prayer, fasting and seeking Jesus like never before. And so, we thought it would be good to teach a little about fasting.
*Vision Sunday is a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about the Hillsong church vision, to hear the message from the senior pastor of the Hillsong church Brian Houston, and also to watch a vivid video presentation that reveals more the
heart and soul of the church. The 1st part of the Vision Sunday will take place at the services on February 16 at 11:00 am and 1:15 pm, the 2nd part on Friday, February 21 at 19:30 at the meeting “Heart And Soul”.

What do we pray for?

During 3 weeks of fasting we encourage you to focus on prayer. Every week will have it’s own focus. We believe that 21 days of fasting will influence lives of each of us, our families, our church, our city and country.
Week 1: “Jesus and My Personal Life”
In the first week of fasting, we will focus the prayer on the Jesus to be in charge of every area of your personal life.
Week 2: “Jesus and My Local Church”
The focus of this week is to pray for the health and growth of our local church.
Week 3: “Jesus and My City”
The focus of the last week of fasting is to pray about revival in our Society.

Day 1: “Pure heart”

Psalm 51:12
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Matthew 5:8
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Jesus said in the message that for those who are pure in heart it is possible to see, hear and understand God. He wants to talk with you, have close relationships. God loves you and will stay with you at the time of victories and defeats, in the season of excess and the season of deficiency. Whatever season you are in now, He wants to lead you to the best places, to give excess and to bless you!

We are not able to make our hearts clean ourselves. We can come to God in prayer and ask Him for it. We go to the shower to wash off all the dirt. Thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, your sins are washed and forgiven. Today in prayer, thank Jesus for this and trust the Holy Spirit, who will wash and make your heart clean. Remember, God loves you and wants to be with you. He will speak to you through the word and in prayer for 21 days of fasting.

Day 2: “Thirst for God”

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

John 4:14
But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

Healthy relationships with God in many respects depend on your desire to seek Him, on our “hunger and thirst” for the Holy Spirit, your passion and desire to follow Christ and do His will. Just as your body needs water and food, your soul and spirit need Jesus, who is spiritual Bread and Water that gives life and is saturating more than anything else.

The meaning of fasting is not to suffer because you refused on something, but to come to God in prayer with the expectation that He will fill your spiritual thirst and hunger. Come to Him in prayer as you are, with the desire to know Him more and to feel His presence. Tell Him about your desire to be closer, take some time to allow God to fill your heart with what it needs – joy, peace, faith, love, confidence, hope.

Day 3: “God’s wisdom”

Proverbs 24:3
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;

1 Corinthians 1:30
… who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

God’s Word says that wisdom is the main thing. When you have wisdom, everything you need comes into your life, including finance, respect and long life. Therefore, never set wealth as your goal! If you want to have God’s wisdom, just ask Him for it. And He will give it “simply and without reproach” (James 1:5). But the truth is that God already gave us wisdom when He gave Jesus for us, “who has become wisdom from God” (1 Cor. 1:30).

Therefore, if you encounter problems or difficult circumstances at work and don’t know how to resolve it, just say, “Jesus, You are my wisdom. I thank you for giving me the best solution.” If you have difficulty raising children, say, “Jesus, thank you for the wisdom in how to love and raise my children.” Each of us needs God’s wisdom and not the wisdom of this world. God’s wisdom builds healthy homes and relationships. God gives you His wisdom, which will lead you to the success, victories and breakthrough that you need! Thank God today for the wisdom that He gave you together with Jesus Christ.

Day 4: “Personal finance”

Genesis 12:2
… I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

2 Corinthians 9:11
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

You can have the same revelation as Abraham. That God blesses you because He loves you and gives you opportunity in everyday life to show His love to people around you, your church and society. We read in God’s Word that He wants to give us finances and give in excess, but God wants you to realize it’s purpose – not only for your own sake, but also for the Kingdom of God.

Look around you, if someone is in need – help him as you can. May your life be a light for the people around you, for the sake of Jesus Christ! Pray today for your personal finances to be in order, for God to help you, by His mercy and grace, repay your debts, give wisdom to manage your personal finances, so that you always have an excess for good deeds and generosity!

Day 5: “Healing and recovery”

Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you;he will never let the righteous be shaken.

James 5:15
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.

When in the Old Testament people came to the priest with a prayer for sins or for healing, they sacrificed a pure animal. The priest did not even pay attention to the sins of people, but he only checked that the animal was pleasing for the sacrifice – perfect, without blemish and flaw. Jesus Christ became such a sacrifice for you and for all people. God checked and tested Him instead of us. Therefore, He became a perfect sacrifice for our sins and illnesses.
Do you believe that God can heal the sick today, can restore your body, soul and heart? Even if you have sinned, through the “prayer of faith” God will forgive these sins. What is a “prayer of faith”? This is faith in Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, who took your place on the cross, He took upon himself the severity of the consequences of sin, condemnation, humiliation, physical suffering and death. But Jesus rose on the third day! And by the same power that God raised Christ, He heals and restores you when you need it and when you come to Him in a “prayer of faith”.

Pray today believing that Jesus has already paid in full for your forgiveness, healing, and restoration. Accept it as a gift from God who loves you!

Day 6: “Family and friends”

Acts 11:14
“He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved”.

Luke 5:20
When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

Sometimes your close people or family member goes through a difficult times, needs a prayer support, healing or wisdom. In the Gospels we read that often parents came to Jesus and asked for their children, people came to Him with requests for their friends. Jesus healed or answered by the faith of parents or friends, although at that moment those people, they were asking for, could be completely at different place, and we don’t even know anything about their faith.

You can come to God in prayer for your loved ones – friends and family members. Pray to God with confidence that He has enough grace and mercy to do a miracle in the life of those you are praying for. If you are praying for the salvation of a person you love, continue to pray with the confidence that they will know God as you do, and personally receive revelation of God’s love.

God will hear your prayer and gratitude is for each member of the family and for your friends, who loves them and blesses them because you ask for it in faith.

Day 7: “The word from God”

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

John 6:63
“…The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.”

Jesus spoke words of life, which built the spirit of people, which had the power and strength to change people’s lives, give freedom, move mountains, heal and resurrect. These were not just clever thoughts of religious people who did not change anything. Wise leaders in the Old Testament (such as Moses, King David, Daniel) have always sought the Word from God to make the right decision and choice. Do you believe that today God wants to talk to you? He speaks, are you listening?

He speaks when you read the Bible, when you are in prayer and fasting, when you are in the church, when you are at home, at work, on the way. Ask Him in prayer today to speak to you, be ready to hear Him. God’s Word will build your spirit and faith, there is a life and freedom in Him, in Him there is an answer for you. When you have God’s Word in your life, it is filled with faith, joy, peace, wisdom, love.

Day 8: “Pastors”

Ephesians 6:19 (NIV)
“Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel”

Acts 12:5 (NIV)
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

The apostle Paul, one of the most powerful and influential church leaders, asked the church to pray for him. In the book of Acts, we read how the church fervently prayed for Peter, and we know how God miraculously saved him. This shows that pastors need a church just as a church needs them.

When we look at pastors, it may seem that they are always alright and spiritually strong, but in fact they are the same people and have their own spiritual battles, they also face temptations and needs. It is a great honor, but also a great responsibility to lead and instruct people.

Today, in unity, let’s pray for the senior pastors of the Hillsong Church, Brian and Bobby Houston, and also for the pastors of the Hillsong Church in Russia – Vadim and Anna Feschenko, so that their families are in order, that they continue to lead the church wisely and preach the gospel boldly.

Day 9: “Leaders”

Genesis 39:5 (NIV)
From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (NIV)
Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.

God calls God’s people for leadership. Healthy leadership will always lead to growth and fruits, blessing and development. Thanks to leadership, our church has a certain culture, difference and growth. We honor and bless the leaders who walk the “second mile” while serving to others.

When the church began to grow the apostles set up other leaders (deacons) so that they could care of the church’s health (Acts 6). Hillsong Church has many great leaders who help people find their calling in Christ and reveal their potential in God. But we also need more genuinely humble, God-called, strong leaders, and we believe that God calls the people in our local church to do so.

Today we pray for every leader in our church, that God will strengthen and give them wisdom, bless their homes and families. We also pray that more leaders will reveal themselves this year who will positively influence people in every area of their lives.

Day 10: “Volunteers”

Joshua 24:15
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 12:7
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34). We incredibly appreciate and thank God for every person who has decided to serve others with his gifts and talents, showing God’s love in real deeds. Because of the large number of people who keep their gifts on an “open hand” and have a “servant’s heart”, our church is constantly getting better and has more and more influence.

This year we want to see more people in our volunteer teams who love God and people, who want to build a church with honor and do everything possible for every person to feel the meaning of the simple phrase “Welcome Home”.

Today we pray for all volunteer teams in our church: pastoral team, creative team, management and organization team, Hillsong Kids and others. We proclaim God’s protection and blessings on their families and homes.

Day 11: “Healthy Families and Relationships”

Ecclesiastes 4:12
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

John 13:34 (NIV)
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

The culture in our society says that marriage is a formality, that it is only a union of two people that can be easily dissolved or not concluded at all and just live together. But we believe that Christian marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman before God. The Bible says that “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Eccl. 4:12) Therefore, Christian marriages are called to be strong and able to withstand even the most difficult times.

Christian families are not perfect, but because we allow Jesus to be in our relationship (this third cord) and when we apply the Bible in our daily lives, we enjoy healthy relationships in our homes.

Today we pray for all the families in our church, for God’s protection, blessing and peace. We pray for families and homes that are going through a hard times, pray for reconciliation and strengthening families. That every house in 2020 saw even more generosity of God in provision and be a bright light for the society around us.

Day 12: “Color Conference in Moscow”

John 4:39
Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”

Acts 4:31
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

We believe that God created women in a unique way and gave them a special destination. Unfortunately, the role of women in the family and society over the course of history has been degraded and depreciated many times. The purpose of the Color Conference is to restore the value of femininity and equip women for a big and meaningful life in Christ! Just as a Samaryan woman influenced her city, we believe women in Russia can positively influence their homes, churches and cities.

This year, in May, the first “Color” conference in Russia will be held in Moscow. It is a great honor and privilege for us to prepare it and serve hundreds of women from our country, we believe this time will inspire them, fill them with faith, change them and unite them for the sake of positive changes in their life and society.

Let’s pray for the Color Conference in Moscow, for Pastor Bobby Houston and the speakers of the conference, the team in Moscow that does a lot of preparatory work, all the volunteers who will serve at the conference.

Day 13: “Venue for the church”

Isaiah 54:2
“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.

Matthew 5:14
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

We need a good venue to hold a church services at a high level, so that it can serve both kids and adults. We are passionate about our church services to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ and be a blessing to the people who come, so we do our best to make it great and with honors. To make it all real we need a relevant venue.

We continue to look for the best meeting place for the Hillsong Church in Moscow, as well as for the Hillsong Connect group venue in St. Petersburg.

Let us pray in unity for God’s supernatural provision and for the places where we can be the true light and blessing for the people around us. We believe that God has prepared the best for His church.

Day 14: “Salvation”

Luke 15:32
“Because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

We want to be a church that welcomes every man, woman and child at the door with words “Welcome Home”. A church that accepts people, allowing them to be “themselves.” But at the same time, which boldly and openly preaches salvation by grace through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

We are grateful to God that dozens of new people come to church meetings, and many of them decide to proclaim Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It is a great joy and celebration to see how people trust their life to God.

Today we pray that we always can be open to people in the world whom the Bible calls those who are still lost, but thanks to the grace of Jesus will be found! We also pray that we, as a church, will be mature and capable of accepting, serving and helping to grow in the journey with God to even more new people in 2020!

Day 15: “Authorities and Governments”

Ecclesiastes 10:20
Do not revile the king even in your thoughts…

1 Timothy 2:1-2
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

God’s Word says to obey the authorities and governments, pray for them and bless them. This is what we should do (the first Christians were persecuted by the authorities, but still obeyed them). But this does not mean that we must agree when we see injustice or corruption. We can fight with weapon God has given us: prayer and fasting.

We live in an imperfect and sinful world where people act dishonestly because of their personal gain. But God loves all people and hates the sins of people, so He gave His Only Son for everyone, He paid the same price for ordinary workers with the most inconspicuous role in society and for superiors holding senior positions.

We will pray in unity that God can influence the leaders and authorities in our country, for their hearts to be open to God. We will pray for their wisdom, so that the decisions and laws that are adopted in Russia allow people to live better, the churches to continue to preach the gospel and the Kingdom of God to spread!

Day 16: “Local churches in Russia”

1 Peter 2:17
Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

Acts 16:5
So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

There are many wonderful local churches in Russia. We see how our pastors maintain good relationships with other pastors and churches. The unity and support between the churches will be a blessing to people and will help fulfill our common great mission – the Mission of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28: 18-20)!

It is our honor and privilege to pray for other churches in our country. Let’s pray that churches become champions in what God has called them for, that churches are healthy and strong, and that they grow and influence the community around us.

Let us pray for the churches that are under the pressure now, for the young churches, as well as for the new churches that will be opened this year! For God’s protection and peace on their leadership and pastors, and God’s grace to lift and strengthen them even more.

Day 17: “My neighbor”

Galatians 5:14
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

1 John 3:17
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?

Jesus called us to take care of our neighbor as ourselves. When he was asked: “who is our neighbor?”, Jesus answered that he is the one who needs us and is next to us now. We care about our loved ones and families. But also we are often close to different people (even whom we do not know) who need our help, a generous deed or a kind word. Sometimes such “random meetings” are not random: God sends strangers into our lives who can help us, but also God sends us to those people who need help!

Performing our daily duties and work, let’s pay attention to the people around us who need us and for whom a simple kind deed, smile or word can play an important role and even open their heart to God.

Let’s pray that God will turn our attention to the people who need our help. God loves us and blesses abundantly so that we are always ready “for every good work” (2 Cor. 9:8).

Day 18: “City Care”

Matthew 25:40
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Isaiah 58:6-7
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

As a church, we are called to serve the community, individuals and families who need simple physical help. We do this through the “City Care” ministry. Every year we make charity projects that bring together dozens of people who care and serve hundreds of families who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. It is our responsibility to show compassion and illustrate the gospel in a simple matters of help.

Let us always be open to help people in need, because by doing this we serve not only people, but also God. ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
(Matt. 25:40)

Let’s pray that our hearts will always be open to generosity, that our eyes will notice people in need, and that through the “City Care” projects we will serve more people this year!

Day 19: “Next generation”

1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In megalopolises, millions of young people come to study and work. We believe that God has called us, as a church, to influence the younger generation through the gospel of Jesus Christ, worship songs, and the Kingdom culture that we carry. We believe that the young generation is capable of bringing great positive changes to our society. Therefore, we want to invest in youth, teenagers and kids.

Young people face many temptations, a culture of this world that uses and devalues them. As a church, we will support and encourage them to be passionate, courageous, and free in Christ, and we will also proclaim the best future for them!

Let’s pray today in unity for young people, teenagers and kids in our church and in our society! About their protection, calling in God, that future leaders grow among them, who will influence millions of people, future pastors and church leaders, who will continue to build the church on a whole new level!

Day 20: “God’s Peace and Protection”

Isaiah 61:4
They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

This world belongs to God and He gave us authority over it when Jesus Christ died on the cross. He also gave us spiritual weapons (faith, prayer, fasting, the Word) to conquer the world with its temptations and sin. We are not called to hide and fear what is happening around us and to wait for Jesus to come back for us. He gave us the Holy Spirit to “restore” our earth, to protect it from evil.

The prayer of the local church in unity for peace and God’s protection in our country has power. Let us pray in unity today.

Day 21: “Awakening in Russia”

Psalm 22:27
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him

Isaiah 35:5-6
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.

Let’s proclaim together that we live in the times of awakening! God’s awakening is here! It is not somewhere far from us. It is in us, in His people, in His church, in our city, in our country. This is what Jesus does when we open our hearts to Him and allow Him to lead and be in the center. Expect an awakening in your personal life. In the areas of life of drought and desert. Proclaim God’s grace, protection, mercy, love in your life – you are his child, beloved son or daughter.

Let’s pray for revival in the church, so that we will see even more God’s grace and generosity serving to society, at Sunday services and in how many people this year will turn to God and trust their lives to Jesus Christ!

Let’s also pray for an awakening in Russia! Let us proclaim and expect the kingdom of God to spread even further and wider, while millions of people will be saved and changed by the gospel.

Why are we going to fast?

Maybe you’ve done a lot of fasting or this is the first time you’ve ever heard about it. Whatever your experience, we hope it would be beneficial for everyone to understand WHY we do this.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33 NIV

Life is filled with worries, responsibility and needs, and at the same time – dreams, plans and goals. We are looking for ways to live a better year, with greater efficiency, or simply to complete what we have outlined. In the verse above, Jesus designated all of the above with the words “all these things” comparing it with seeking the Kingdom of God and the righteousness of Jesus. We “find” them through personal relationships with God, when we devote our time and attention to this, and also make them a priority. We are convinced that when we make a decision to seek God in fasting and prayer, “everything else” will take place in the best way possible and will bring joy and peace.

What can help you to make fasting effective?

How will we fast?

What will we be praying for?

Everyday during the days of the fast we will have bible verses and prayers posted on our church website and social media accounts. We will be praying about different areas of our lives and we believe that the 21 days of fast and prayer will influence our families, church and community!
