FAMILIES OF REFUGE – Do you have room in your heart and house for a young refugee?
Right now there are children, predominantly 16 and 17 year-old boys, waiting in various parts of Europe for a home. These are children who have fled persecution in countries such as Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea and Sudan and are alone, separated from any family support. The UK Government has committed to welcoming a certain number of children to the UK, under programs such as the ‘Dubs Scheme’, and allowing them to make their home here, however there is a lack of available placements and these children are left waiting.
Lewisham Council has committed to housing 5 of these young people as an initial response. Together with Home for Good we are looking for families who can house one of them. If you have a spare room and are interested find out more via the Home For Good’s website or get in touch via [email protected] if you have any questions.
