As young refugees begin their new life in the UK, they often seek guidance and training. Workshops from an expert in a certain professional field provide a forum to learn new skills and be directed towards possible job opportunities. This helps to accelerate the integration of these youth into the local community.
Through the Spheres Workshops, experts and professionals provide monthly workshops to young refugees, which are fun while also teaching them life
skills. The interactive sessions, which last about 90 minutes, cover different ‘spheres’ of society, such as business, education or creative arts. Working in partnership with different refugee organisations, such as Refugee Council, we bring in leaders in certain fields to provide these monthly workshops. The theme of the workshops is carefully chosen to meet the interests of the refugees. In addition, special events, such as a Christmas Party, are also arranged to provide a further opportunity for social connection and networking.
The monthly Spheres Workshops are attended by an average of 25-30 young refugees. Since the programme was launched in September 2016, over 300 refugees have attended a Spheres Workshop.
