Out of the 23 million individuals living in Mumbai, 54% live in slum communities often without access to education, sanitation, food and healthcare.
In India, poverty is generational. Statistics show that:
20 million children living below the poverty line and there 300,000 children living on the street in Mumbai alone.
These children are often at high risk of being caught up in a life of substance abuse and are also highly vulnerable of being trafficked.
Vision Rescue aims to free children from all forms of poverty and exploitation by engaging and sustaining them in education. Through this, they will be empowered to define their own future and break out of the cycle of generational poverty.
Vision Rescue is currently operating in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. Education and nutritional meals are provided five days a week through school buses, which serve as school classrooms and community centres within the slums. Their holistic approach is evident through support activities such as sports programs, vocational training, and the medical and dental vans. They support not only the street children but the kids’ families and the wider community to combat the ‘slum’ mindset and its challenges.
For the price of 1 coffee a week you can contribute £10 a month that will give a child on the streets of India and their families an opportunity to break out of the poverty cycle – exchanging it for a future with dreams and hopes
