Hillsong Church started in Sydney back in 1983 by Pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston as a church reaching the local community. Since then, we’ve moved from being 70 people in an old school hall to a global church in many locations, yet we remain a local church committed to every individual that walks through our doors.
Our Pastors Gary and Cathy Clarke launched Hillsong in the UK in 1999, with a gathering of around 100 people. We now have 13 campuses with multiple services in the West End, North London and New Bermondsey in Central London, as well as Croydon, Guildford, Kent, Reading, Oxford, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Dublin.
The heart and soul of our church is to introduce people to Jesus and His Church so they might enter into a personal relationship with Him, and in his Church, find their place of belonging and grow in self-sufficient maturity.
Our endeavour is that people develop real, authentic, tactile, meaningful social connection as they serve for the common good and wellbeing of others, and that they live and open generous life towards those in their immediate sphere of influence, so that they might also decide to come to know Jesus.
Ephesians 2:20-22 (MSG)
We are a Jesus-centred community of people who enjoy life and believe that getting to know God intimately is a journey best done together! We believe in both water and Spirit baptism, communion, fasting, speaking in tongues, the principles of tithing and giving, and servanthood. We have a ‘come as you are’ culture and believe these practices are all part of a person’s spiritual formation in their Christian faith. It is within our small groups that these are then outworked, as we learn to become spiritually and emotionally healthy through applying God’s principles to our lives together.
