All worldviews are intrinsically accompanied by a belief system; a set of ideas that make value judgements on what is right and what is wrong, what is true and what is false. This is true of all worldviews, religious or irreligious, and the Christian faith is no different! For the 2000 years that Christianity has ‘existed’ it has been undergirded by a set of beliefs that have been passed on through generations of believers right up to the present day.
We call these beliefs ‘doctrine’. You may be familiar with this term or you may have heard it mentioned in passing, but it’s not a common word, and as such it’s not always clear what exactly it means. The word ‘doctrine’ comes from the Latin term ‘doctrina’, which refers to a teaching, an instruction or a principle. In essence, Christian doctrine is the principles, the teachings that are fundamental to the Christian faith.
In this 6-week course, we are going to be unpacking Christian doctrine, and laying out the building blocks of the Christian faith that have stood the test of time throughout the history of Christianity. But, rather than simply exploring what we believe as Christians, in this course we’re also going to be exploring why we believe them.
Why not join us as we journey together, exploring our beliefs and why they’re so important to our faith? We can’t wait to see you there.
