In verse 26 of 1 Samuel 17, “David asked the soldiers, what will a man get for killing a Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?”

What a great verse! I believe David was able to say, “I have faith for this” because he understood that he had a righteous cause.

David was indignant, passionate, and determined to confront and defeat the Philistines. Do you imagine we can live like that? To be clear, I’m not talking about speaking like that to people, but when we come up against spiritual opposition!  This is the kind of spirit David carried and why he could say, “I have faith for this”; he knew his cause was righteous.

You know, we celebrate the greatest cause on the earth at Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of a virgin. It was an impossible situation because God wanted to always remind us that the essence of Christianity is that He works and moves in impossible situations. That is the story of our faith!

David understood he had a righteous cause and I want to remind you that we have the greatest cause on earth; to see God’s purposes fulfilled in all the earth is a righteous cause, and we should be convicted, compelled, and excited about it! Understanding that will enable us to say, “I have faith for this”!

Prayer:

Almighty God, thank You for sending Jesus to bring reconciliation between God and humanity, and that You have sent me to be a ‘minister of reconciliation’.  I pray that those who are far from You will come to know Your freedom and life, and in turn be filled with Your purpose. Help me to be passionate and determined as David was in the face of spiritual opposition, knowing that I have a righteous cause for which to fight.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
