Fear has no place
1. Johannes 4,18 ESV
„There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.“
So fear has no place when love reigns. Really? If you think of Jesus’ last moments, on the cross, just before he gave his life for this world, that is, for you and me, you may have sensed a brief moment of fear in Jesus, for he asked “My God, why have you forsaken me?”
What if Jesus had asked himself at that moment if it was a mistake to go to the cross for so many people and generations?
But he was called. By a loving God. Yes, a God who gives perfect love. And God’s love reigned, in Jesus (and so in us, too), so that he gave his life for us – though he was surely afraid.
God’s love turned fear into surrender and courage.
The fear of making mistakes paralyses us. We may no longer do things for which we have a passion. But why are we afraid of making mistakes? Isn’t it because sometimes life’s experiences tell us we don’t deserve forgiveness and we hold on to fears? Let me tell you, Jesus took our mistakes to the cross, once and for all.
Action Step:
Take a moment to identify your fears. Maybe listen to a worship song that speaks to your heart, maybe go for a walk to give your thoughts space. And then write down what you are afraid of, what paralyses you and what you lack in accepting that Jesus gave his life for you so that you can live in freedom and ease.
