Living from your spirit

What does it mean to ‘live from your spirit’? Yesterday we looked at how we are a threepart being: spirit, soul and body. With our body and our soul (mind, will and emotions) wecan worship and cry out toGod,but it is through our spirit that we communewith andreceive Him. Think about that for a moment. When you communicate with God throughyour spirit you can hear Him; in fact, that is why you exist!

It is through your spirit that you perceive what is going on spiritually speaking–and if everthere was a time to know what’s going on spiritually, it’s now!As Christians, it is vital to livewith an open spirit to God.Youreceive from God throughyour spirit, which is why yourspirit is so important to Him.

John 3:6 says, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the [Holy]Spirit is spirit [your spirit]”. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in your spirit.

Living from your spirit stops the chaosthat comes from living inthe realm of your soul.Much of the content of your soul is learned behaviourfromyour upbringing andexperiences.Unless the negative attitudes and wrong belief systems are corrected in linewith God’s Word, they will dominate your thinking and sabotage your life. If you arecontrolled by your soul, you willbe ruledby what others think and say. But when you livewith your spirit connected to God’s, you can break free of the control of what other peoplethink about you.

Ultimately, your spiritual life is led by God’s Spirit in your spirit.God will speak toyouuniquely andpersonally. He won’t say the same things in the same way He does toanyoneelse.

O LORD , You have searched me and known me.You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought a far off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.–Psalm 139:1-4 (NKJV)

You can trust God with your life. He knows you inside and out in a way no one else possiblycan. When you open your spirit to His, He will guide you, and tell you the future. He willinstruct you regarding the right choices for your life from the smallest to the greatest, leading you on a path to peace andfulfilment; a life that shines forth His glory.

It stands to reason, doesn’t it, that if the alive-and-present God who raised Jesus fromthe dead moves into your life, he’ll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to himself? When God lives and breathes in you (and he does, assurely as he did in Jesus), you are delivered from that dead life. With his Spirit living inyou, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!–Romans 8:10-11 (MSG)
