David took care of his father’s sheep and goats and learnt how to defend the flock when a lion or a bear came to steal a lamb. David recognised that every day sets you up for the next day.
He was able to fight Goliath because he had already fought a lion and a bear, and had taken them out. I believe with all my heart that what you do today will set up your tomorrow. And what you do tomorrow will set up your next day.
What you do in 2024 will set you up for 2025. And what you do in 2025 will set you up for 2026. So, think about what you do today!
Think about your heart.
Think about your actions.
What do you need to leave behind in 2023?
What do you want to do this coming year to carry forward into 2025?
There is a scripture that says, ‘Do not give the enemy a foothold’. That means, do not give him any little part of your heart. We don’t want to give the enemy any place in our heart, or our mind, or our life, or our soul, or our spirit.
David understood that every day, everything he did set him up for tomorrow. He could fight Goliath because of what he had done in the past. And that’s why he could say, “I have faith for this.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I am grateful for the days I have. May I make the most of each one as it sets up the days to come. Please help me to add good disciplines to my life this coming year to build a foundation of strength for the years ahead. By Your Spirit, give me the courage and the power to break away from those things that hold me back so they do not have hold over me. I lift up those who also need Your strength and courage today, that they may be empowered by Your Spirit to walk out a holy life daily with You.
