Lauren Thomson
Head of Social Impact

  • Bio

Lauren's lifelong association with what is known now as Hillsong Newcastle reflects her commitment to the church. She began serving during her high school years, contributing to various age groups such as kids, youth, young adults, and youth alive as well as volunteering in the finance team. Her service coincided with a phase of growth for the Newcastle campus, during which she supported volunteers, mentored leaders, and earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in accounting. In 2017, Lauren and her husband, Hugh, relocated to the Hills Campus, where they volunteered as connect group leaders and actively participated in supporting connect groups and morning services. In 2018, Lauren became a part of the church staff, primarily contributing to event operations. In addition to facilitating the transition of conferences in the post-Covid era, her expertise in financial systems, audit, and regulatory compliance has proven instrumental in supporting various aspects of church operations. Inspired by the church's focus on addressing global injustices at conferences, Lauren's faith evolved towards a practical application of service. She believes that the church can be the hands and feet of Jesus, not just in spirit but through practical means, actively helping meet the needs of communities. As the Head of Social Impact, Lauren is passionate about building relationships and partnerships with external organisations, aiming to create significant and social impact through Hillsong Church’s efforts.
