A Letter from Pastor Phil and Lucinda Dooley to Hillsong Church Africa

 

Dear Church,

By now you have probably heard that Pastor Brian is stepping down from church leadership for the duration of 2022. (If you missed the announcement, you can read his statement here.) Pastor Brian has asked Lucinda and I to step into the role of Interim (or Acting) Global Senior Pastors, which we have agreed to do. At the same time, we will continue in our role as Lead Pastors of Hillsong Africa.

While we see this next step in our journey as a huge privilege and honour, South Africa remains our home. (We’re definitely not leaving!) In fact, we are as committed as ever to build a church that will help build nations. Our vision to build 50 churches in 50 influential cities across Africa is on track and remains a leading focus for us and our team in Africa.

We know that Hillsong Africa is healthy and strong and this has made it easier for us to be obedient to the call to lead our global church for a season.

Your prayers would be much appreciated during this time. Please pray for Pastors Brian and Bobbie as they navigate a very challenging season. Pray for our church globally and here in Africa, as we continue to go from strength to strength. And please also pray for us and our kids as we embark on this new journey in 2022.

When we moved to Cape Town in 2008, God gave us a prophetic scripture for South Africa: ‘“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.’ (Malachi 3:12 NIV). His Word holds true and we can trust everything He does.

Make sure you join us for Vision Sunday on 20 February as we look ahead and cast fresh vision for the year.

We are fired up about the future of the church on our beautiful continent and passionate about reaching more people with the hope of Jesus. Together, we have the privilege of making a difference and building a lasting and eternal legacy.

Thank you to all of you for being faithful, generous, and sacrificial members of our church family. We’re praying for you, believing for God’s wisdom to guide you and His grace to cover you.

We love our local church in Africa beyond measure.
